ANESTESIOLOGY, RESUSCITATION and INTENSIVE CARE

BASIC DESCRIPTION

The course focuses on three basic components of anesthesiologist work: anesthesia, intensive and resuscitation care and the basics of emergency medicine. The topic of acute and chronic pain treatment will be also covered.

WHAT SHOULD THE STUDENT LEARN

Students will become familiar with the principles of general and regional anesthesia. As a part of the practical exercises, they will be trained in basic airway management, bag and mask ventilation and peripheral venous cannulation. Students  also learn and practice techniques of basic and advanced life support, including the use of appropriate instrumentation. In intensive care unit students will obtain a brief overview of nursing and care for critically ill patients, including information about artificial ventilation, nutrition, diagnostics and therapy of the most common critical conditions, etc. Students will also become familiar with the emergency room of the faculty hospital.

HOW ARE THE LECTURES ORGANIZED

The lesson consists of obligatory e-learing presentations  (see the link below), optional classical lectures and compulsory practical exercises. The practical exercises are divided into two parts, the first of which is in the classroom and is focused on the rapid repetition of the theory and subsequent practical training on the models and the second part, which takes place at the clinical workplace where students  visit operating theater, intensive care unit and emergency room.

Teaching is completed by a credit test and an oral exam.
